About the Role

At Quantum, we're passionate about solving complex automation challenges that keep critical infrastructure running. We're looking for an experienced Controls Engineer to join our growing team in Tempe, Arizona.

In this role, you'll design, develop, modify, and maintain PLC and HMI applications for municipal, industrial, and critical infrastructure clients. You'll work on projects from concept through commissioning, collaborating with fellow engineers and directly supporting our clients. What You'll Do
Design, develop, modify, and maintain PLC and HMI applications.
Create technical reports, testing plans, commissioning procedures, and project documentation.
Perform on-site startup, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
Collaborate with clients to understand project goals and develop practical control system solutions.
Read and interpret electrical drawings, control schematics, and technical documentation.
Troubleshoot programming and control system issues during service calls.
Manage multiple projects while maintaining quality and attention to detail.
Work closely with engineers, integrators, contractors, and clients to deliver successful projects.

Education


Preferred


  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Bachelor's Degree in Automation Engineering


Also Considered

  • Engineering Technology

  • Equivalent education and relevant industry experience

  • Experience

  • 7–10 years of controls engineering experience preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience


Technical Experience

Experience with one or more of the following technologies is preferred:


  • Inductive Automation Ignition (Certification preferred)

  • AVEVA System Platform

  • Rockwell Automation Studio 5000 / Logix Designer

  • Schneider Electric Control Expert (Unity Pro)


Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong PLC and HMI programming experience

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

  • Experience with startup and commissioning of industrial control systems

  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and project teams

  • Strong written communication and technical documentation skills

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and control documentation

  • Comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously

  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Understanding of industrial networking and routing is a plus
